About our beds
At Feelgood eco beds we believe there are three things
to consider when making furniture:
1. Design and manufacture furniture from sustainable
timbers
2. Dispose of any waste without resorting to landfill
3. Give the best possible value for money
Each of our eco ash beds is unique simply because the
wood we use retains its original shape and form. This makes it impossible
to mass-produce so when we describe it as 'handmade' that really is
the case.
The
construction process relies on traditional methods using round mortice
and tenon joints which are glued and pinned with wooden dowels to keep
them in place which ensures that they will not work loose with time.
The wood used to make the distinctive head and footboards
is local English ash which has the bark removed to leave all the unique
characteristics intact. It is taken from local managed woodlands within
a 20-mile radius of our workshops. The next stage is to air-dry the
wood for about 6-months before being slowly kiln-dried. This process
ensures the timber has optimum stability when placed in your home and
why we are confident to offer our lifetime guarantee.
We also use traditional mortice and tenon joints on our
range of sustainable pine beds and where appropriate on our range of
bedroom furniture. The timber used is Quebec yellow pine, famed for
its light weight and stability. It is sourced from a reputable supplier
with a strict sustainability policy. All drawers have dovetail joints.

After assembly, all furniture is given a handwax finish
that further enhances the natural grain and features of the wood. All
our waxes are a blend of natural waxes and are tuolene-free. Because
every piece of wood is different the final colour may vary slightly
from the photographs that you see on this web site.
The
side rails and slats are made from FSC certified pine. The slats measure
an impressive 7½" wide and 1½" thick (190mm
x 40mm) and provide excellent support for any of our mattresses.
The mattresses that we supply are specifically designed
for beds with wooden slats and are the perfect partner to all our beds.
We can now also supply totally organic and latex mattresses - see
our mattresses page for full details.
All the mattresses carry a full manufacturer's warranty - please contact
us for details.
All the English ash that we use to make our beds is grown within a 20-mile radius of our workshops in managed woodlands.
All other timber is from sustainable sources.
