Frequently asked questions
Why do you think your
beds are eco-friendly?
We have been making wooden furniture for many years
and strongly believe that it's possible to make truly unique and beautiful
beds without harming the environment. Unlike many other bed manufacturers,
we do all we can to minimise our carbon footprint and have formed our
own policy to deal with all the waste produced at all stages.
What are your eco beds
made from?
Our beds are made from locally produced English ash
and high quality softwood. The head and footboards are kept 'in the
round' as they're found in nature but the bark is removed leaving a
smooth and lustrous finish.
Where do you get your timber from?
The English ash is sourced from managed woodlands all within a 20-mile
radius of our workshops and is a combination of thinnings and coppiced
timber.
Coppiced timber is produced by cutting the tree but leaving the remaining
stump to produce new stems and hence more timber in the future. Thinnings
are produced when it is necessary to create more space in a forest for
the remaining trees to grow in height and girth.
The softwood that we use for the slats and side rails is from FSC-cerfified
suppliers that ensures that it from sustainable sources.
Are your beds really handmade?
Yes - all our beds are made in our workshops from the
raw timber. Since each piece is unique in shape and size it would be
impossible to manufacture by an automated process. We assess each piece
for suitability for our beds and work Nature to produce our unique and
beautiful beds.
What sort of finish do
you use on your furniture?
The waxes on all our eco beds are tuolene-free and enhance
the natural grain and features of the wood. The hand-wax finish gives
the whole piece a beautifully smooth surface that is both hard-wearing
and maintenance-free and which will produce a warm patina with age.
You can be sure that no harmful solvents or polyurethane varnishes are
used and so you will not need to worry about contaminating your home.
Can you supply a mattress
that is right for my bed and good for the planet?
We have a choice of mattresses - including fully organic
- that we can supply and deliver with your eco bed. These have been
chosen for their suitablility for use on slatted beds and will provide
many years of use and they carry a full maunfacturer's warranty.

eco bed?

is both easier and more efficient to transport but will fully assemble
it for you and leave it ready for use. We will not leave any packing
materials from the bed or mattress as we dispose of these in accordance
with our eco-policy (See our green commitment
here)

wait for my eco bed to be delivered?

after you have placed your order. However, most orders are delivered
much quicker as we know that you will want you new bed as quickly as
possible.

the model that you choose but the actual wood that is used will mean
