Our green policy

In any manufacturing process there will be some waste to deal with. We have five main areas of waste to deal with and we have adopted the following ways of dealing with them which, we believe, are the most environmentally-aware and effective.

1. Bark from the ash poles used to make the head and footboards of the beds.
This is composted on site and then returned to the soil.

2. Timber off-cuts from making the furniture.
These are burnt in woodburning stoves to heat the workshops.

3. Shavings and sawdust generated by the woodworking machinery.
These are given to a local stables to be used as horse bedding and will eventually be returned to the soil.

4. Packaging from new mattresses.
The heavy duty polythene which the mattresses are wrapped in is batched and then taken to a local plastics recycling centre.

5. Collecting your old bed and mattress when we deliver your new one.
If your old bed is in a good condition it will be offered to a local charity who help people who could not otherwise afford furniture. If not, wooden beds are broken up and used as firewood in our woodburing stoves and metal beds are taken to a local metal recycling centre.

We believe that beds can be beautiful without harming the environment or damaging the planet. Every stage of our production process is designed to minimise and reduce our carbon footprint and we are constantly looking at new ways to improve.

If you have any suggestions as to how we can improve we would be pleased to hear from you.
